Travel to Vermont from New York 2024

Head to Creamery Covered Bridge. It’s one of the most photographed covered bridges, perfect for capturing fall foliage. Closed to traffic but open for pedestrians, the Creamery Covered Bridge was built in 1879 and is a Town lattice truss design. It has a vehicle lane (closed to traffic in 2010) and a pedestrian lane that was added 40 years later – you can walk both easily.

The bright red bridge crosses Whetstone Brook and is a very short distance from the Interstate. You really have no excuse for not stopping to check out this fabulous piece of architecture, Brattleboro’s last surviving 19th-century covered bridge.

The bridge is the centerpiece of a small park with parking and benches. It’s a nice stop in any weather. The grounds around the bridge are well-kept, and the bridge itself is in good shape (no vehicle traffic on the bridge, it is set up for foot traffic only).

Bonus Stop: If time allows, visit Retreat Farm nearby to explore trails with more foliage views, or take a short walk around the farm’s property to see animals and seasonal displays.
