Title: “A Lease Unraveled”
INT. LIVING ROOM – DAY
Homeowner, MR. WILSON, sits across from his tenant, PHIL, both tense.
MR. WILSON
Phil, we need to talk about your overdue rent.
PHIL
(Sighs)
I know, Mr. Wilson. It’s just been a rough patch lately.
EXT. HOUSE – BACKYARD – DAY
MR. WILSON gestures towards the boiler room, where Phil’s cat lounges.
MR. WILSON
Your cat’s taken over the boiler room. It’s not safe, Phil.
PHIL
I can’t find another place for her. She’s family.
INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS
MR. WILSON
I’ve been supportive, but kindness shouldn’t be taken for granted. You’ve been living here for years.
PHIL
I appreciate that, Mr. Wilson. I’ll figure something out soon.
INT. KITCHEN – DAY
Mr. Wilson looks at the calendar.
MR. WILSON
(Concerned)
You’ve got six months due rent. I’m retired, Phil. It’s getting harder for me.
PHIL
I’ll find a way to pay, just give me a bit more time.
INT. LIVING ROOM – LATER
MR. WILSON
(Serious)
I’ve been patient, Phil, but I need you to pay the full balance by December 31st and vacate the place. I’m in trouble too.
PHIL
I never wanted to take advantage, Mr. Wilson. I’ll do my best to make things right.
They both leave the room, the tension lingering in the air as the future of their landlord-tenant relationship hangs in the balance.
